Gratitude

“Jesus picked up a cup of wine and gave thanks to God. He gave it to his disciples, and they all drank some.” - Mark 14:23 CEB

In this season of in-gathering pledges and commitments of time and talent, thank you. In this season of the fall harvest, thank you. In this season of thanksgiving and a special day of thanksgiving, thank you. You are a generous community and your generosity blesses many. Thank you.

On the last night of his life, Jesus shares a meal with his friends. It is a meal in which we now all share. It is a meal that continues as we gather for fellowship after church in the parish hall and when we gather in our homes and elsewhere with thanksgiving. Jesus picks up a cup of wine. We remember his first miracle at the wedding in Cana of Galilee. He made water into the finest wine. He provided wine for the celebration. Now, at this supper, he also lifts a cup for celebration. And as he does on another occasion, he thanks God for what God provides. When the resources looked meager, he took a few loaves of bread and two fish, looked to heaven and gave thanks to God. Five thousand men plus women and children were fed. There was food left over, of course.

Gratitude is expressed to God. So, thank you God, for the people of Good Shepherd. Thank you God, for the gifts of time, talent, and treasure you have given them and they have pledged to your Kingdom work. Thank you God, for the bounty of your harvest and for grateful hearts. May it please you to bless and multiply our gifts to the service of your church.

With gratitude,
Fr. Bill+
